The high school musical series renewed for a third season at Disney +

Disney + has officially decided to renew hit teen drama from creator Tim Federle High School Musical: The Musical: The Series for a third season. The renewal comes more than a month after the end of the series’ 12-episode second season. The series is directed by Joshua Bassett and Olivia Rodrigo, who is currently enjoying a steady rise in her music career as she recently topped this year’s MTV Video Music Awards with three major wins, including Song of the Year for the song. “Drivers License”, from his successful debut album Sour.

“We are excited to head to the great outdoors for season three, and grateful to our partners and friends at Disney + for their continued support of our next generation Wildcats,” Federle said in a statement.

Season 3 will continue to follow the Wildcats as they exit the halls of East High for the ultimate summer at night camp, complete with campfires, summer romances, and curfew-free nights. Production is slated to begin later this year in Los Angeles.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is a mock teenage musical drama that follows a group of East High college students directing a performance of High School Musical for their winter theatrical production, only to realize that so much drama also occurs in the backstage. Season 2 featured the cast featuring a The beauty and the Beast musical where they covered songs from the acclaimed play while performing original songs for the series and songs from High School Musical 2.

The series stars Olivia Rodrigo as Nini, Joshua Bassett as Ricky, Matt Cornett as EJ, Sofia Wylie as Gina, Larry Saperstein as Big Red, Julia Lester as Ashlyn, Dara Renee as Kourtney, Frankie Rodriguez as Carlos and Joe Serafini as Seb .

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is produced by Tim Federle (Ferdinand) and Oliver Goldstick (Pretty little Liars) as well as the EPs of the original film Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush.

The first one Musical High School film broadcast in 2006 on the Disney channel which launched Zac Efron’s career (The greatest showman), Vanessa Hudgens (Dog days) and Ashley Tisdale (Charming) giving them worldwide recognition.
