Bridgerton Star Regé-Jean Page is speaking out amid reports he has lost a TV role due to the race.
“Hearing about these conversations doesn’t hurt any less now than it did then,” Page admitted in a tweet wednesday. “The clarifications almost hurt more [to be honest]. But he ended on a positive note: “I always do my thing. We are still doing the job. We’re always flying, ”accompanied by a punching emoji.
The page did not specify which “conversations” it was referring to, but “we always fly” appears to refer to a tidbit in Hollywood journalistof detailed look to Ray Fisher /Justice League dispute. The story notes that Page – before making Netflix audiences swoon as Bridgerton‘s Duke of Hastings – auditioned for the lead role of Superman’s grandfather in Syfy’s Prequel series Krypton. But Geoff Johns, director of DC Comics, which oversaw the series, “said Superman couldn’t have a black grandfather,” according to THR.
Johns “also thought fans expected the character to look like a young Henry Cavill.” (Cameron Cuffe was ultimately cast to play Superman’s grandfather in Krypton, which debuted in 2018 and was canceled after two seasons.)
Page bounced, however: His Bridgerton breakout last year led to a plethora of movie offerings – so many, in fact, that Page won’t be returning to reprise his role in season 2 of Bridgerton.
