After earning her first Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress, Hamilton star Phillipa Soo has officially been selected for a regular role on the series opposite Elisabeth Moss in the upcoming Apple TV + series adaptation of Shiny girls. Soo is expected to take on the role of Jin-Sook, a character described as an intelligent and sure-footed woman who works in the research department of the Adler Planetarium. Soo will also be seen in Hulu’s upcoming limited series. Sick.

Based on Lauren Beukes’ best-selling novel, Shining Girls revolves around a vagrant named Harper Curtis in Depression-era Chicago as he finds the key to a house that opens at different times , but in order to travel he must kill a bright young woman who burns with potential known as “bright girls”. After tracking them down through their different eras, he meets his equal in 1989 when one of his victims, Kirby Mazrachi, survives and begins hunting him.
The adaptation of the series will be directed by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Kirby, a Chicago reporter who survived a brutal assault only to discover her reality changes as she tracks down her attacker. She is accompanied by Jamie Bell (Rocket man) like Harper, and Wagner Moura (Narcos) as Dan.

Shiny girls will be written and produced by Silka Luis, who is also the showrunner. The long-running project in development will be produced by Moss and Lindsey McManus via their Love & Squalor banner with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davidson for Appian Way. It is a production of MRC Television, with Beukes and Alan Page Arriaga also attached to the executive production.
