Chicago Med is officially in recruiting mode following the departure of longtime actors Torrey DeVitto and Yaya DaCosta.
NBC’s medical drama promoted Steven Weber, who plays Dr. Dean Archer, to a series regular for season 7, our sister site Deadline reports. In addition, Guy Lockard (The village) and Kristen Hager (Condor, human being) have embarked on the whole in full-time roles.
Weber first entered the show in Season 6 when Ethan asked his former Navy supervisor to join the emergency department staff. But Dr. Archer quickly clashed with the other doctors and nurses, leading Ethan to guess the hiring. At the end of the May season, Ethan was seriously injured, so Goodwin – unaware that Ethan had concerns about his colleague – appointed Dean as acting chief of the ED.
Lockard, meanwhile, will play Dr. Dylan Scott, a Chicago police officer who left that career to become a doctor. Hager is expected to play Dr. Stevie Hammer, a brilliant and rambling ER doctor. The new additions will fill the void left by DeVitto and DaCosta’s outings as Dr Natalie Manning and Nurse April Sexton, respectively, at the end of Season 6.
“All good things come to an end,” DeVitto wrote on Instagram shortly after announcing his departure in May. “It was such an honor and sheer joy to bring Dr. Natalie Manning to life for all of you on Chicago Med for 6 seasons. But now is the time for her and I to bow out and say goodbye.
DaCosta shared his own post via Instagram: “After six incredible seasons working with some of the most dedicated people in the business, learning some wild medical lingo, growing as an actor and as a person… my time as a that April Sexton on Chicago Med came to the end… I will miss everyone, and of course, everyone who watches the series religiously and is also part of the One Chicago family.
Chicago Med is scheduled to return for Season 7 on Wednesday September 22, again airing on 8 / 7c. It will be followed by Chicago fire and Chicago PD
